I also wanted to do rolled up paper but the box would be small so i'm not sure. I was thinking some would be solid wooden squares and others would be filled.
The blocks will have to be very complex color mixtures to embody all emotion, so browns, non-spectrals, etc.. and I think you will need to have a "gaming" aspect, like- "predict or state your mood, now try to arrange the blocks so that your mood is conveyed, or how is your mood different than the one conveyed in the blocks?" Looking into how SUBTLETY is conveyed. I would say look at places where emotion is discussed, "non violent communication", and try to show - IN COLOR- the nuances of how we feel. NOW as to it being a game, how to make this FUN! and not just therapy? FUN??? Think of things you play with, a stick becomes a sword..how can this game be a magical tool? Could it help you at work- to diffuse an emotional bomb- or make you more aware of how you are feeling? OR to help you sympathize with someone who is not behaving kindly? All emotion stems from LOVE and FEAR- maybe that would help categories most bad choices as FEAR based and try to have people "meditate" on making color choices that lead to LOVE based choices?
GET OUT THERE and start painting some blocks!!! Sprays could be "mixed" on the blocks? Magenta, Cyan, Yellow, Black and White- spray from a distance and allow the mist to gently fall. PS: I have the COLOR CUBE in your image!!! Top center to the right a bit.
PROTOTYPE SUGGESTION: Get a jenga game and paint each side of each cube a different shade, tint, tone, neutral of spectral color....then as you are playing the game you can choose what side of the cube to expose on the side of the tower. People would choose the color based on what other colors were chosen and placed before it....this is not the solution, but will give you some more ideas....
