weekly photo - The Dream House

mela foundation
Last thursday I went to The Dream House with some friends in my Jazz Collab. The Dream House is a sound and light installation in Tribeca. Created by La Monte Young, it is one of the longest running installations, now in its 18th year on display.

The Color is a created by a harmony of red and blue light. Both of the lights wore black hoods, but one was reflective. This light projected the blue light into the space. On the surface the light was projected onto you could see a gradient of colors including green and red. Green was the closest color to the light source. The other, non reflective light, was red. We noticed when walking towards the blue light, the actual light bulb would look blue from afar but would transform into red as we came closer to the light source.

The sound part of the installation was composed of a spectrum of simple pure frequencies. The spectrum was flooded at every possible frequency level, creating a kind of droning like tone. When you moved around the room, the sounds would change. What we are doing in the picture is making circles in the air moving towards and away from our ears, this created a kind of high to low shift in sound. There were MANY other cool ways we found of interacting with the sound and light space. I definitely recommend checking it out!
