Rend Shamma | Color Inventory Redo

  1. I like this concept, esp. the way you are showing it with the woman on cell phone. I think the way you are showing her (In writing there is a way of SHOWING versus TELLING- like taking someone on a roller coaster ride VERSUS telling them about it). I want you to SHOW Us the people you are showing us! SO Take us on the ride!!!!! The woman looks like she is ONE person, but the writing is another (almost BOY writing) She looks a bit "fancy", not so rough. SO it made me think, what if PAIRS were set up where TWO photos where across from one another and the person on Page 1 analized the person on page 2 and then the reverse happened. SO, you would "HEAR and SEE" how the one person SEES the other.
This could get FUNNY< it could get bitchy and mean. BUT mostly the aim would be to SHOW how one person VIEWS or thinks of another from their point of view. (this could all be a fantasy, where you become the actor and assume being the two interpreters?- Sort of a Tracy Ullman graphic designer type!)
The COLOR would be slamming into one another. Picture a pair being CLASHY: Graffiti artist and UPTOWN EAST SIDE WOMAN!
Or two that are almost IDENTICAL: TWO Banana Republic types, do they see each other differently? Or do they celebrate each other? Color could be cold, simple or it could rock the boat and bring into question who they really are?
OH< that just made me think, these could have frosty layer of TYPE pages in color with the black and white images UNDER! That would be beautiful.
IN SUMMATION: AS TO COLOR: Their needs to be ONE VOICE! OR, you need to ALLOW each particular voice (character) to speak LOUDER! This second approach interests me, but then how do you create "harmony"? That will be your challenge.
Have fun! PUSH your questions this week, don't play it safe and do not try to FINISH the piece, EXPLORE and EXPAND your choices. This looks great and could be a fantastic tool for people to become more AWARE of their similarities and differences- COMPASSION! Damn we need it!
PS: Color that is MOST harmonious is alike in Hue, Value and Chroma- change one and you have contrast! Change ALL THREE and you have a TON OF CONTRAST< consider this when you play!

  2. I am thinking the same thing as Tom. My first thought was have the photograph on one page with text and the same photograph on the page next to it in color. It can be painted or digital. In either case the second photo will interpret the character of the figure through color. Bring a sketch of the layout of the zine on Tuesday so we can see how it will look as a series.

  3. Thank you for the comments, I just wanted to point out that these are only sketches to show the initial idea I am thinking about. The photographs used in these are from the internet and I am intending to use my own photography in the zine which is not completed yet.

Also I definitley agree that the handwritting is not matching the style of the woman but I just wanted to show that these will be handwritten. The whole intention is to show my view on these people that is why I intended to do it all, but maybe I can take the photographs and ask people what they would think was their favorite music etc.

Thank you for the help !
