Objective Analysis
Methodology – A way to describe an object.
Description – Long narrow fruit with a thick skin that can be peeled. Usually has a purple black bud on each end with a longer stem on one side. They may be entirely green or yellow with maroon splotches. They usually appear in clusters amongst others of their same kind. Usually firm and smooth in texture but can get bruised easily. When bruised, it can crack or feel very soft. There are many varietals that are subdivided into groups that may range in size. It’s a very good source of vitamin.
Content – The banana is a practical natural material.
Physical Analysis – A slightly bent cylinder object with smooth bumpy curves. Beat up and bruised after getting into multiple fights on its journey to America.
There are several different methods in opening this object:
Pinch or push to tear the skin while peeling downward towards its stem while using the stem as a handle.
Take both end and snap in half with out squishing it.
Use a knife to slice it open.
Take the long stem then snap to peel down its skin.
Formal Analysis – There are different varieties that range in color from red and purple to green and yellow. One can argue that a banana is off white or cream due to its real color within itself yet a vivid yellow is most appealing. There are many curves and angled lines within this shape. The same curvy lines repeat inside the peel. Overall the object looks like a crescent moon shape. The size varies like the color but the average size seems to be about seven inches. The proportion is about even and well balanced.
Deduction – Linking the objects world with the perceiver’s world.
Inherent and Attached Value – The actual cost ranges in pounds or by singles, sold from $.50 to $1. The cost of what people go through in other countries to produce such an object for others.
Experiential Analysis (Sensory Analysis)- A bright yellow object with soft smooth curves that can change in color over time. It is silent before you have a moment before indulging. A creamy sweet flavor with a soft texture getting softer after every bite with the feeling of being content and happy after it is gone. Bananas are perceived to boost your energy with all the vitamins and nutrients. The association with that thought when looking at a bright yellow object improves the mood of feeling good and being happy.
Establishing Neutrality (Cultural Perspective)- Male Asian born in Honduras, living in the United States. There are three different classes: Extra Class, Class I, Class II. Democratic Buddhist with the life span of 2 to 3 years.
Speculation – Creative Imagining.
It is born and raised 15 – 30 feet high up in the air of Central America. The mother reproduces about every 9 months and then dies since it does not bear seeds for reproduction. The stems bloom into banana bunches which are then stringed to the mother so its not knocked away from tropical windstorms due to its weak trunks that can weigh about 140 lbs and eventually bend due to its weight. When old enough and green it is separated from the mother into the care givers cushioned backs to be harvested and cut into smaller bunches and chosen before flying out. After ten days to two weeks of being under the care givers hands, they are then shipped to the land of the free but some don’t make it due to Black Sigatoka. The plague that eats away the plant leaves, affecting the size of the fruit and making it ripen too fast before getting to its destination. Powerful pesticides are sprayed in eliminating this disease, for killing the worms that attack the root of the plant and killing other plants growing around it. These pesticides are extremely dangerous and highly toxic so a integral part of this application are aerial spraying with airplanes more than 40 times a year.
A cultural hypotheses of all the different varietals of bananas can be that the skin is not editable and is eaten in a similar fashion. The skin that preserves the actual banana within its thick skin must all be peeled regardless of what type of varietal.
