Final: Environmental Color Self Potrait

So I have returned to my primary idea with a new twist which i think will really push it aesthetically to where I want it to go.

I will ask people a questionnaire:
Racial Color

Nationality

Sexual orientation

Gender

Room wall color

Room obtuse color

Favorite object dominant color

Favorite color


and with these colors I will paint and film either
1: a canvas
2: their face
or
3: pour the pigments into water

these will be overlaying a shot of the person in their environment (bedroom)

this will demonstrate how the person identifies themselves with social words, how these relate to colors, but to also see what these identities actually define themselves as, and hopefully when this is mixed it will create something similar to a skin tone, then this skin-tone will be compared to them and i will see how close social identities (via color) are close to our corporeal color.

The composite will probably only be of like two or mayyyybe three people because of time restraints but I imagine that I can make it work, hopefully relatively well

homework due 3.1.11

My image is Elaine de Kooning's "Harold Rosenberg." Even though the first one is maybe more accurate to the colors that the painting exhibits, I feel as though the movement of the second one is more accurate to the clever play with layering color and her intense brush strokes.

These are all (so dark! and dulled!!!) from an opening that I went to last weekend at the Mark Weiss Gallery on 520 w24th. The gallery exhibited open paintings all week by Herman Nitsch and his team. The show is amaizng and demonstrates color in an amazing way!

Also my gallery, the Jenkins Johnson Gallery on 521 w26th st, has an opening on March 10th where we are exhibiting an artist that deals with issues of color, race and identity through mixed media works. He uses brown paper bags, alluding to the "paper bags tests," and contrasts this with pastels and melted and crafted faces. Hearing the artist, Nathaniel Donnett, speak about this reminded me of our skin tone painting session, check it out!
