The goal of my campaign is to get people to think about where their electricity comes from. The Union of Concerned Scientists say that many states are not taking advantage to their clean energy resources and instead have coal imported from far away further increasing the harm done to the planet. NY imported all of the coal it used in 2008 but it could get 80 percent of its energy from renewable resources. They state that renewable energy, "Has the potential to generate more than 16 times the amount of electricity the nation now needs." The Union of Concerned Scientists is urging people to contact their utility company to find out where their energy is coming from and to implore them to invest in more clean energy resources.
My pinwheel campaign will raise awareness of the situation and start up a conversation. I will paint paper grocery bags with all natural paint made at home colored with natural pigments. The pinwheels will say "Where does your electricity come from?" and have a website where people can find more information. I will also have posters painted the same way as the pinwheels with an image of a pinwheel and my tagline.

ReplyDeletethe point here is to communicate a message. And I have to say the poster with PINK is attention grabbing! Love that! I wonder if some white in your beet juice will get that going?
The visuals here seem MUCH MORE EYE GRABBING! Look at Christo's fences and islands works!!!
Consider covering Union Square with this one afternoon! Get 10 friends to put out 20 pinwheels and you have a happening!!! OR- do it for FESTIVAL on the 21st! Thousand of people will see your work working!!!
The COLOR issues??? Natural can mean many things. But the PINK is so eye catching. WHat's more important or better yet, how can you KEEP IT ALL! I think a clue would be WHERE this is put out and at WHAT TIME OF DAY! Take your project out where it is LIT (from behind, in front) Consider the pinwheels being clear if needed!? Can RICE WRAPPERS be made to bend/shape and then spin?
OR if the are LIT during the night? What do they need to SHOW UP? Light from a side?
OR are they on a GRAY GROUND, like concrete, so all the color shows even when it is SOFT?
Think about it, looking good.
PS: Look over the CA and LA photo resources you posted, they have hints to COLOR, NATURE and LIVELY LIFE in MANY OF THEM! Esp the trains in LA!
Be well Tom
I agree with everything Tom said. I want to add that using the bright pink and yellow is a fun and original way to represent "green" thinking....everything else I see is literally Green. I also love how your actions speak louder than words. You are saying "research, look and find alternative energy"....and that is exactly what you did with mixing your own pigment. And what you came out with is new and exciting! PINK AND YELLOW! It is a great message about giving alternative methods a chance and making discoveries in the process.
